I truly believe this – especially where art is concerned. I don’t really distinguish between last year and this year by ‘marking it’ with a number – it is all part of the same life and I don’t feel a need to ‘clean slate it’ every 365 days. To me it is like saying good or bad, that everything that came before is unimportant and that is Not true. You need the good and the bad to get the BEST 🙂 You are the summation of all of the days.
When an artist seeks to grow – its really important to look backwards.
I make art every day – some good some not so good and there are many times when I look at something and say ‘I could do this for the rest of my life’ – this is evidenced in the past by the number of “FreshFish”, “Beach works” and “Petworks” that I have posted. There are hundreds more in each of those themes that are not posted and or sold.
For 2013 it will be this:
On a whim – and I know ya’ll are tired of seeing the damn dog portraits- but this was done sitting in front of the TV on a lap board with a water brush. I had just finished reading something somewhere on the inter-webs and the thought about painting the light and shadows in contrasting colors (orange and red here) popped into my head. I am sure some one taught this to me at some point in the past 50 years, but that single ‘ding’ has grown into a least one or two commissions a week. It’s funny how, in not even trying, the results are WAY better than anything other form I have slaved over. The Fish and the Beach Huts were the same way. Maybe its a ‘calling’ of sorts?
Heres to your ‘new’ start and the continuation of my regular life days in sequence- which are sometimes very special. May we all find our best. Love, Ann
I could never get too many dog portraits, Ann. This one in shades of orange and red is fantastic.
