Sunday Fun-Days

beablankredflower

I’ve been teaching myself to digitize my artwork. This is a combination of my hand lettering and an abstract Watercolor flower.  I decided that it might be fun to create a new way to share artwork…. so….

Introducing a new art game – kinda like Cards Against Humanity except you pick the answers from your life instead of a pile of cards (and you decide whether or not it’s humane…)

To play, simply put your choice of fill in the blanks in the comment section or print the piece, add your words and share (#whimsyvillefun) or post on Whimsyville’s Facebook  Page under today’s post (Jan. 24, 2016) . Best original answer wins a ‘digital’ version to print out …. tell me what you are thinking, good or bad….

Have a great week – Love, Ann

These LIttle Piggies –
can you spot the ‘thumb’ and the ‘pinky’ ?

So ……. here is the latest watercolor and ink work – not overly complicated but lots of fun and very colorful.  Inspired by the incipit cold / hot / cold / freezing weather – there is actually a pretty big collection of these now.  You would have thought that “birds” would have been the first, given my commitment to myself to finish a collection, but you can guess that the need for color invaded the plans.

They are going to Whimsical Women in Chapel Hill in May – so either I see you there and you can pick one up or for those of you who live far, far away – the US Mail can bring one to you.

Lots of love – and happy weekend – Ann

Keeping on track …

In an effort to keep on track with the ” building a collection thing” , here are four bird works .

They will become the basis of design so each will build out into collection. You probably can see the similarities to the sketches from last week – hopefully .

Working like this is hard for me . In the past I built, drew, painted or collaged what I wanted to. This is a lot less freedom but focus is something I have needed to work on. Happy Friday my friends and thank you so much for your encouragement 🙂 .

Brilliant Little Birdies – the beginning of a collection

Brilliant Birdies

Brilliant Birdies

here are my ‘morning’ sketches from this week. I was trying to NOT be symmetrical & I think I achieved that . It’s making me a little uncomfortable – but that’s the entire point – to stretch your ideas.  I find them silly – and whimsical. I am always going for whimsical and I am pretty sure no one ever was chastised for silly – they are definitely ‘raw’ at best.

Usually i will not share my sketches because they stink. But as part of the goals that I have set for myself, artistically, over the next few months I would like to try to discover some grounds for collections. Those of you who currently license work know why this is vital- I am having a problem sticking to one idea long enough to complete the collection. ADD.  This time, I am taking a different course, after the sketches, they are getting scanned an given potential placement in a series, with a name. I figure that like the children or the cat we adopted, once they have a name, we can’t give ’em up – so they will need tending too and that means COMPLETION !

I have hundreds if not thousands of ideas like this. fish, birds, raccoons, lighthouses, starfish, sea shells – you name it – it will be interesting to see if this tactic/plan works.

Hope you are having a fabulous weekend !

The refreshing odor of freshly cut lumber and art space restrictions

Karl the Contractor is busy in the basement adding a bathroom on the same floor as the studio – (there goes my art exercise – that is running upstairs to use the bathroom) and, god forbid,  a ‘kitchen’ . It seems to me that this space is becoming a ‘man cave’ – complete with spear throwing range and beer refrigerator and I saw a HUGE tv (nobody needs a tv this size its more like a score board) peeking out from between the bikes stored in the basement.

This ‘space’ was claimed 13 years ago by me – the painter and my husband – the wood worker. Tons of painting, two books and several hundred experiments have occurred on the ‘art’ side. The woodworking side remains a pile of things that need to be repaired and or replaced with the exception of the infamous ‘eagle project’  which was done mostly in the middle of the driveway, not in the wood working shop.

There are of course no ‘cars’ in the two car garage. There are kayaks, camping equipment, a really big lawnmower (but some dude cuts our grass?), boxes of things from DH’s ‘side of the family’ – I just stay out of those all together…

So for the next few months, I will be resigned to sitting in my ‘upstairs art space – a chair with nine cubby holes placed next to it- holding markers, pencils and various art books – for creating ‘new works’.

Here was last nights finished PetWork – his name is Raleigh. He is just about the happiest dog I have ever seen. I am sure it will make his owner smile.

I also delivered the black lab PetWork yesterday and the collector that purchased it told me she cried when she saw it. I have mixed emotions about a sad reaction to my art – you know my tag line is , “happy art for happy people”….  but it was a memorial picture – the doggy had passed away two months ago.

So heres to a the smell of freshly cut lumber, the on-going he wants / she wants space discussion and more happy art collectors . Have an awesome weekend .

A Wonderful Surprise –

I awoke this morning to find that Paint Party Friday features last week’s Men of Snow.Thank you all so much for the lovely compliments and for the honor! I have to say that since joining PPF, I have regularly blogged almost every week (which I think is really important to sharing your work with the world).

Today’s post was going to be entitled Going to the Dawgs – but that seemed a little inappropriate given the surprise.  Very soon, some very lucky people are going to receive some very special portraits for Christmas. Here is a sneak peak of these fun watercolors – but shhhhhh – don’t tell.  The last one is my dog – Murphy Rex Krier. Right this second he is a sad little man – he has some allergies that are just unkind to his beautiful fur. He is still our baby though….
