The jellyfish – and some artists

I think if I was the one that named this creature,  i would have used jellifish as opposed to jellyfish. The first coming out of literally no where – was marker and watercolor – done in an hour with coffee. The second, 16 x 20 on canvas and in acrylic was more like three hours without coffee.

Funny thing – paintings look nothing like my drawings – but they don’t have too, I guess. The green jelly looks like a hamburger – from far away.  I really admire artists whose work is constantly ‘them’. I guess I am still finding me.

The acrylic painting is in the Etsy Shop:
Not sure where the paper/watercolor will end up. Might make a good print….

Memorial Fish

Happy Memorial Day!

A few weeks ago I was watching a movie on the girlie channel about a girl living in Wally-mart who gave birth to a baby named Americus. I think this sounds more like a species of fish than a name for a child, and so in a weird-sort-of-movie-inspires-art kind of way, the “Memorial Fish” was born. There is also this boring book that was given to us by my husbands brother, the “First Fish” – not quite a presidential book, but in pursuit of spring spawning, the fish in the book (a shad) goes on a trip. Seems to be a lot of fish in politics…. just saying.

May your life and adventures inspire creativity in your life – especially during the long weekend.   Love – Ann

Funny, but we seem tailor made for each other – and I was OVERWHELMED by the beauty, creativity and sheer fun of the other ladies works.  I am hoping to be lucky enough to exhibit this fall in Pfafftown, for Whimsical Women on November 23rd. More to come.

You can visit all the artists on Facebook at Whimsical Women

light, at the end of the tunnel

Well, there is no tunnel, but there sure is light – light houses that is. This weekend is Whimsical Women in Chapel Hill at the Southern Village from 10 – 3. This is why I haven’t posted in so long, after prepping and cataloguing over 100 pieces of original work for the show, i decided that I need something that was bundled – light house note cards – so without further ado – the North Carolina Lighthouse Series – Whimsyville Style.

Winterized Wonders at Meadowlark

Winterized Wonders at Meadowlark

I did not get a chance to participate in Paint Party Friday yesterday because my little apprentices and I were setting up for the debut of Whimsyville at MMS.

There were a lot of happy comments and even some sold work ! One of the pieces that I loved and never scanned was sold during set up. It was the “City of Brotherly Love” (Philly).

One of the parents that I have known for a while and had forgotten was an art director said “I love the depth and the texture and the subject matter”.

Sharing my art is makes me happy – it is just something that money can not buy.

Next show – Whimsical Women the first weekend in May (see flyer below – these are girls after my own heart) !

Body of work- Beachlife and Freshfish

In an effort to grow the body of work that I call Beachlife , this little pair finished yesterday will be added to the pile. I will never tire of giving fish , crabs and other sea creatures their own character marks- they just make me happy. Hope you all have a great PPF and weekend.
