When life gives you sleet – make SUMMER ART. There is little you can do about Mother Nature – except maybe alter her works of art a little to create a new work of art.
Patriotic Sea Star
Anyone who is experiencing the remnants of winter has just had it. My friend Dave pleaded with MN to stop her snow fall – nicely even. My cousin Elizabeth has her two boys morphing the snow man into monstrous, bloody dudes – just how many sweet snow people can you make until you have to start interjecting your own ideas – this is truly a sign that enough, my dear mother nature, is enough.
If you see Al Gore today ask him why the Great Lakes are roughly 80% solid ice – probably because of global warming. Right……
I just heard, while writing this post, a tree fall in the woods. I am not in the woods, but for those that have pondered this question about the tree making noise all you life… i will just say that It Does.
Love your day, make some colorful art and for-get-ta-bout the weather. – Ann

Winterized Wonders at Meadowlark
I did not get a chance to participate in Paint Party Friday yesterday because my little apprentices and I were setting up for the debut of Whimsyville at MMS.
There were a lot of happy comments and even some sold work ! One of the pieces that I loved and never scanned was sold during set up. It was the “City of Brotherly Love” (Philly).
One of the parents that I have known for a while and had forgotten was an art director said “I love the depth and the texture and the subject matter”.
Sharing my art is makes me happy – it is just something that money can not buy.
Next show – Whimsical Women the first weekend in May (see flyer below – these are girls after my own heart) !
In an effort to grow the body of work that I call Beachlife , this little pair finished yesterday will be added to the pile. I will never tire of giving fish , crabs and other sea creatures their own character marks- they just make me happy. Hope you all have a great PPF and weekend.
So I wanted my birds to look “more real” funny thing for a whimsical soul… I bought a Learn to Draw Book and so here is the red- wing black bird Whinsyville addition. Notice the lack of red wings-
It is going to ice rain here today- my mind wanders off to the beach instead. This painting is alcohol markers, watercolor and white acrylic ink ….it may not be finished! Happy paint party Friday!
a little lighter, and a whole lot messed up..
Sometimes when you run a series of paintings weird things happen. The dude was a mess. He is now fortunately covered by a paper version, but his ‘texture’ was lost and it feels like cheating a little. While collage is a very legitimate artful category, the point was stick to the canvas and paint.
Oh well, may my path to artists’ hell continue for I have now mixed Golden fluid acrylics with the ‘cheap’ stuff , Liquitex glaze, Heavy Artist’s Cement from US Artquest to hold the dude in place and I think we just about hit every manufacturer there is.
There were supposed to be 4 in this series, but I think I might just end the pain here.
Have a very whimsyful day !
when life gets annoying, make art. Tombow Markers, a little H2O and a Pitt S pen sprinkled with lessons and inspiraton from Joanne Sharpe and Marie Browning.
So for the last several weeks I have disappeared into the world of Joanne Sharpe’s Artful Alphabets, though not exactly what I expected – it was very fun, funky and a great learning experience.informative. I was suprised and happy to learn something a little different than I thought I was going to!. Joanne obviously has a gift for sharing and teaching.
At the same time I took, Marie Browning’s Tombow Marker Lettering Class . No less amazing and wonderful, Marie is also a marvelous teacher and these Markers are really fun. I shied away from markers in the past, no more !
Two teachers, two styles and now, I am a lettering fool. I have SO many pieces to share and I need to sit down, scan them and show you.
If you need a little ‘break’ from other stuff going on this time of year, I highly recommend either or both.
I like experiments. Here are a few and on Thursday, Feb.2nd you will be able to learn how on the USArtQuest Blog !

I have always avoided mono-printing becuase it requires a lot of space – layout the glass, room for the prints to dry, yada, yada. This month for my US ArtQuest Design Team project, I was trying to find a quick way to cheat the encaustic process that did not work, but this did – mono-printing. I have seen demonstrations with a gelatin mono-print, but my refrigerator is already over crowded with ‘teenager’ food – so that was just not an option.
This is the first mono print I have tried with this techniaue, and the tutorial will be posted on the USArt Quest Blog on the today…. stay tuned as I play with this some more.
